Visit Domme and the surrounding area

Domme is a picturesque village in the south of the Périgord Noir. This historic site is listed as being one of the Most Beautiful Villages in France. The village was even selected to represent the Dordogne in the 2021 Favourite Village of the French TV contest. Just like Sarlat, Domme has everything you could wish for, including its breathtaking view over the Dordogne River.

As well as its panoramic views over the valley, Domme boasts another precious jewel: its Bastide. It was in 1280, when the French and English were fighting for control of the New Aquitaine, that King Philip III the Bold ordered the construction of the Domme Bastide. This is how the village has endured, despite all the wars, epidemics, and exoduses over the course of history.

You can visit the village on foot. Stroll through the picturesque streets, past gilded facades and houses with roofs covered in brown tiles. You will also discover the engravings left by 70 Templars during their imprisonment in the two half-towers at the entrance of the village.

The Dordogne is brimming with historical sites. After exploring Domme, which village will be your next stop?
